Amethyst Amelia Kelly, known professionally as Iggy Azalea, is an Australian rapper, songwriter, and model. At the age of 16, Azalea moved from Australia to the United States to pursue a career in music.
Azalea’s debut studio album, The New Classic (2014), peaked among the top five on several charts worldwide but received mixed reviews from within the industry. The album eventually topped the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, making Azalea the first non-American female rapper to reach the top of the chart.
Why did Iggy Azalea stop?
“A year ago I was willing to walk away from music because I was tired of the negative energy it attracted.,” she wrote. “But what I’ve learned is that even when I’m minding my business, y’all gonna be negative AND nosey. So if I can’t have peace, neither can you.
Azalea is embracing the chaos now. Ahead of the album’s arrival last year, she told fans that she felt as though “shifting my energy and focus to what I’m most excited about is what is right for me and I hope you’ll continue to support whatever creative projects I’m out here doing.”
