Why are Drake and The Weeknd not friends?

Drake is now king of the cosign in hip-hop. Aubrey has contributed to placing a number of rookie rappers on the map by jumping on their tracks or giving their music a positive review, whether you consider him a wave-stealing opportunist or someone who genuinely cares about helping new musicians receive their deserved light. Megastar The Weeknd, a fellow Canadian, is one of his most notable proteges.

When Drake shared two of the artist’s tracks on his October’s Very Own blog in 2010, he first exposed the vocalist to his followers. Later, as The Weeknd was promoting his first mixtape House of Balloons, they ran into each other. The following year, Abel would contribute to Drake’s Take Care, his sophomore album.

The Weeknd ended up getting a record contract with Republic Records rather than Drake’s OVO Sound label as many expected, which caused the first crack in their friendship to form.

After some time, they reconciled, but it seems that other disagreements arose due to the controversy surrounding The Weeknd’s contributions to Take Care and Drizzy’s interactions with Bella Hadid while the singer and model were still apart.

Just recently, The Weeknd’s verse on Gesaffelstein’s brand-new song “Lost in the Fire” has fans speculating if the two are still at odds. Some believe the My Dear Melancholy singer may have included a subtle dig in the song.
