Jo Raquel Welch, an American actress and model, was born on September 5, 1940, and passed away on February 15, 2023. Welch’s mother, Jo Raquel Tejada, was from Chicago, Illinois. She was the first child born to Josephine Sarah Hall and Armando Carlos Tejada Urquizo. Welch has a younger brother named James “Jim” Tejada as well as a younger sister named Gayle Tejada.

Welch originally intended to travel from Dallas to New York City, but he turned around in 1963 and moved back to Los Angeles, where he started looking for employment with motion picture studios. During this time, she met Patrick Curtis, an ex-child actress who is now a Hollywood agent, who later became her personal and career manager.

They devised a scheme to elevate Welch to the status of a sex icon. In order to avoid being classified as Hispanic, he persuaded her to use the last name of her spouse.

In the beach movie A Swingin’ Summer, Welch made his acting debut (1965). She received the Deb Star that year and created attention in the neighborhood thanks to her presence in a Life magazine story titled “The End of the Great Female Drought!” Saul David’s spouse, who is a producer, noticed her and recommended her to 20th Century Fox.

Welch passed away at her Los Angeles home on February 15, 2023, after a brief illness. She was 82.
