The American hip-hop group De La Soul was founded in 1988 in the Amityville neighbourhood of Long Island, New York.

They have made significant contributions to the development of the jazz rap and alternative hip-hop subgenres and are most recognized for their varied sampling and peculiar lyrics. In high school, Posdnuos, Trugoy, and Maseo created the group, which producer Prince Paul became interested in after hearing a demo tape of the song “Plug Tunin'”. The band’s debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising, has been dubbed “a hip-hop classic” for its fun wordplay, creative sampling, and clever skits.
