Fela Kuti aunts: Meet Azariah Olusegun Ransome-Kuti, Adebola Thomas

Azariah Olusegun Ransome-Kuti,  and Adebola Thomas happen to be Fela Kuti’s Aunts. We currently do not have much information about them. We will have the website updated in due time.

He was hailed in the height of his fame as one of Africa’s “challenging and charismatic music artists.” He was hailed by AllMusic as an internationally significant musical and sociopolitical voice.

He dubbed his music’s fusion of traditional Yoruba music, Fuji music, funk, jazz, highlife, salsa, and calypso as “Afrobeat.”

Kuti brought the band to the US in 1969, where they spent 10 months in Los Angeles. While there, he learned about the Black Power movement through Sandra Smith, a member of the Black Panther Party who is now known by the names Sandra Izsadore or Sandra Akanke Isidore. His music and political beliefs were greatly inspired by this encounter.
