Olufela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti, better known by his stage name Abami Eda, was a Nigerian musician, bandleader, composer, political activist, and Pan-Africanist. He was born on October 15, 1938, and passed away on August 2, 1997.
He is recognized as the creator of Afrobeat, a Nigerian musical style that fuses jazz and funk with West African music. He was hailed in the height of his fame as one of Africa’s “challenging and charismatic music artists.” He was hailed by AllMusic as an internationally significant musical and sociopolitical voice.
