Charles Hardin Holley, known as Buddy Holly, was an American singer and songwriter who was a central and pioneering figure of mid-1950s rock and roll.
He was born to a musical family in Lubbock, Texas during the Great Depression, and learned to play guitar and sing alongside his siblings.
On February 3, 1959, Buddy Holly died in a plane crash along with fellow musicians Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper near Clear Lake, Iowa.

María Elena Holly is the widow of American rock and roll pioneer Buddy Holly. She is a receptionist at Peermusic. According to several sources, she met with Holly and his band the Crickets on June 19, 1958, and Holly proposed to her after five hours on their first date.
María Elena Holly was born on December 20, 1932 (age 90 years), in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
After the tragic death of her husband whom she was married to for six months, she suffered a miscarriage the following day and did not attend Holly’s funeral.
In the following years, María Elena Holly remarried Puerto Rican government official Joe Diaz, with whom she had three children. She is presently single as she is divorced from her husband Joe Diaz.
