Darius LaVar Miles was born on born October 9, 1981. He is a former American professional basketball player.

The 6 ft 9 in (2.06 m), 235 lb (107 kg) forward was selected directly out of high school by the Los Angeles Clippers as the third overall pick in the 2000 NBA draft. He was a First Team NBA All-Rookie in 2001, a first for a prep-to-pro player.

Miles’ playing career nearly came to an end when he was released by the Portland Trail Blazers in April 2008 after two years away from the court following microfracture surgery on his right knee. He returned to action during the 2008–09 season as a member of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Miles was born in Belleville, Illinois, and attended East St. Louis Lincoln High School and East St. Louis Senior High School in East St. Louis, Illinois.

Since February 2019 he has co-hosted The Knuckleheads podcast with Quentin Richardson associated with The Players’ Tribune. On the podcast, Miles and Richardson interview former and current professional basketball players from the perspective of ex-NBA players.

After declaring bankruptcy, Miles was forced to auction off many of his belongings in order to raise money to pay off his debts in 2016.

The auction included items of sports memorabilia like an autographed LeBron James jersey that sold for $1,500, as well as thousands of DVDs and video games and expensive firearms, like a Ruger AR-556 (a rifle that can cost more than $900), according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Miles describes his rough upbringing intends his personal essay in The Player’s Tribune by noting that, after the bankruptcy, he moved to Florida to live near his friend and former teammate, Richardson, and that he’s now doing “alright.”
