Desmond Tutu has been married to Nomalizo Leah Tutu since 1955 and they lived happily for 66 years until the demise of Desmond.
Tutu’s wife is a South Africa-based activist, teacher, and nurse.
She also co-founded the South African Domestic Workers Association. She also founded the Desmond Tutu Peace Center in 1988.
She served as an assistant to the University of Botswana, Lesotho, and Swaziland between 1970 and 1972.
Then from 1976 to 1984, she was the director of the Domestic Workers and Employers Project of the South African Institute of Race Relations. In 2000, she was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of National Louis University along with Tutu.
She along with her husband also received the Mattie J.T. Stepanek Peacemaker Award by the We Are Family Foundation in 2009.
