Donny Edward Hathaway, dubbed a “soul legend” by Rolling Stone, was an American soul singer, keyboardist, songwriter, and arranger who lived from October 1, 1945, to January 13, 1979. His songs “The Ghetto,” “This Christmas,” “Someday We’ll All Be Free,” and “Little Ghetto Boy” is among the most well-known.
In addition, Hathaway is well known for his interpretations of the songs “A Song for You,” “For All We Know,” and “I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know,” as well as his many collaborations with Roberta Flack on the songs “Where Is the Love” and “The Closer I Get to You.”
He was inducted into the St. Louis Walk of Fame and received one Grammy nomination out of four. In 2019, Hathaway was also awarded posthumously with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
