The Who were on thin ice as bandmate tensions rapidly increased during the difficult year of 1966 for them. At this point, Robert Plant, at 17 years old, started to show interest in replacing Roger Daltrey as The Who’s main singer.
After Daltrey threw Keith Moon’s medication down the toilet, forcing him to take a vacation from The Who for a while, the prospect was raised. When they realized “My Generation” was ascending the charts, tensions quickly subsided.

Despite Plant’s efforts to diminish Daltrey’s contribution to The Who, the two men maintained a strong connection throughout the years.
Robert has extraordinary guts, Daltrey once remarked. I’m aware that a lot of people kind of think that he resembles you because you had long, curly hair before he did.
He continued by saying that Daltrey wished he were as tall as Robert because he was simply being himself.
