On March 25, 1947, in Middlesex, England, Reginald Dwight became the father of Elton John. At age three, he started practicing on his grandmother’s piano. At the age of seven, he began taking official lessons. At the age of eleven, he was awarded a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in London. His military father attempted in vain to persuade him to choose a more conventional career in banking.
He was fourteen when his parents split up. After that, his mother wed local painter Fred Farebrother, who turned out to be a loving and supportive stepfather.
