American actress Angela Evelyn Bassett was born on August 16, 1958. She has been active in film and television since the late 1980s and has won numerous awards, including two Golden Globes, and has been nominated for an Academy Award and seven Primetime Emmys.
With her performance as singer Tina Turner in the 1993 biopic What’s Love Got to Do with It, which garnered her a Golden Globe award and an Academy Award nod for Best Actress, Bassett made her breakthrough. This led to her starring parts as Amanda Waller in Green Lantern (2009), The Notorious B.I.G.’s mother in Notorious (2009), and Betty Shabazz in Malcolm X (2011).
