The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Miriam Weinstein, the mother of the filmmakers Harvey and Bob Weinstein, has passed away. 90 years old.

The New York Times says that she passed away on Wednesday at her Westport, Connecticut, home.

Her name and their father’s, Max, names were merged by the brothers to create the name of their first film company, Miramax Films, which was established in 1979.

When Max, a diamond cutter, passed away suddenly from a heart attack on June 4, 1976, at the age of 52, Harvey was 24 and Bob was 22.

She married Max shortly after the end of World War II. She was born Miriam Postal in Brooklyn. She assisted her boys by working as a receptionist for Miramax while they raised their family in Queens, New York.

The Weinstein brothers founded a modest independent film distribution company named Miramax in the late 1970s with the money they made from their concert promotion business. Their parents’ names, Miriam and Max, were combined to give it that name.
