Roy Orbison was an American singer, composer, and musician who lived from April 23, 1936, to December 6, 1988.

His style of stage performance was quite unique back then. He always appeared on stage clad in an all-black outfit complete with thick dark shades and stand very still while performing. His lack of movement and the shades he wore to perform helped him overcome stage fright.

Although songs like Mean Woman Blues had instrumental portions that allowed Orbison to move or dance on stage, he always chose to perform standing still. According to him, his stillness on stage was a legacy trademark.

Orbison was so closely identified with the idea of being unmovable that John Belushi made fun of it on Saturday Night Live.

He was once likened by k.d. lang to a tree, with quiet yet enduring beauty. Lots of other notable people in the entertainment industry poked fun at his style but he stuck to it.
