Patti LaBelle, born Patricia Louise Holte on May 24, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is an American R&B singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman.
She is known as the Godmother of Soul, and she has received countless prizes for her singing and acting.

When her band, Labelle, which comprised 4 members released their self-titled debut album in 1971, they had made history as the first women’s group to sign with a major label, Warner Bros Records.
They contributed background vocals to Laura Nyro’s album Gonna Take a Miracle in the same year. The group’s former sound was changed by the album’s psychedelic soul sound and its fusion of rock, funk, soul, and gospel rhythms.
The group came out with Moon Shadow a year later, in 1972, which carried over the gritty tone from the earlier record.
For their 1973 Moon Shadow tour, the band wore silver space suits and luminescent makeup, taking inspiration from glam rockers David Bowie and Elton John.
