Kalb, who was born on February 4th, 1922 in New York City, earned a degree from City College of New York in 1942.

He then served in the American Army before joining The New York Times in 1946 to report from New York City on Southeast Asia and eventually the United Nations.

As a traveling journalist, Kalb transitioned to television in 1962 and began reporting on international affairs for CBS News from Hong Kong. From there, he went to China to document President Richard Nixon’s important cultural exchange visit to that country in 1972.

In 1980, Kalb went to NBC News alongside his brother Marvin. The Kalb brothers also worked together on an early biography of the United States.

In his six-decade career, veteran print, TV, and book Bernard Kalb covered a wide range of global events. He has since passed away. He was 100. According to his younger brother and colleague journalist Marvin Kalb, Kalb passed away on January 8 at his home in North Bethesda, Maryland, as a result of complications from a fall. His passing was announced by The Washington Post on Sunday.

Bernard Kalb’s funeral plans have not yet been made public.
