Barry White, whose real name was Barry Eugene Carter, was born in Galveston, Texas, on September 12, 1944. He grew up in a difficult area in South Central Los Angeles. His mother Sadie Marie Carter and father Melvin A. White were the parents of the oldest of the two children.

White has remembered in interviews how, at the age of 14, his voice suddenly deepened dramatically. In a confrontation with a rival gang in 1983, White’s brother Darryl was tragically killed. White joined a gang in his teens and was later imprisoned for theft for four months.

White remembered hearing the song “It’s Now or Never” by Elvis Presley on the radio when he was incarcerated, and he later credited that moment with transforming his life.

Who inherited Barry White money and estate?

Despite the fact that Barry and his second wife Glodean had been apart for a long time, they had not divorced, and Glodean as a result received his estate. Katherine Denton, his partner, received nothing.

Katherine sued Glodean in court to get a piece of the fortune. She gave birth to a daughter named Brianna four weeks before Barry passed away because she had always been assured by Barry that she would have enough money to support herself for the rest of her life and could continue to live in their Los Angeles home.
