(LOS ANGELES) A man has pleaded not guilty to felony charges in the death of actor Marlon Brando’s daughter-in-law in a hit-and-run.

Dennis Alberto Vanegas, 34, of Norwalk, was held on $5,000 bail after entering the plea in Municipal Court on Tuesday. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for August 9.

Vanegas was charged with felony hit-and-run, drunken driving, and driving with a suspended license, among other offenses. If convicted on all charges, he faces up to five years in prison.

Jiselle Honore Brando, 29, of Buena Park, was married to the actor’s son Miko and was killed on the Santa Ana Freeway on June 2 in Commerce.

Authorities claimed she tried to break up a fight between two men she was in a car with. At least one of the three was hit by a pickup truck that did not stop, and all three were then hit by a second vehicle that authorities believe Vanegas was driving.

Her two companions were injured.

The first driver was never apprehended by authorities.
