On September 9, 1936, David Gold was born in Stepney, London, England. From 2010 until his death in 2023, he held the joint chairman position at West Ham United.
Gold Group International (GGI), the parent company of the store Ann Summers and the lingerie chain Knickerbox, was his property. Gold and his brother Ralph co-owned GGI until Gold bought Ralph’s part in 2008. He and his brother Ralph both owned a portion of the adult magazine publisher Gold Star Publications (GSP).
