After working as a driver for John Wayne movies in the beginning of his career, James D. Brubaker went on to produce movies with actors like Sylvester Stallone, Eddie Murphy, and Jim Carrey. Brubaker passed away on Tuesday morning from a series of strokes. 85 was the age of the Beverly Hills resident before his death.

He served in the Army and attended Cal State L.A. before accepting a job as a driver for MGM. His coworkers and friends frequently called him “Bru.” As a Teamster, Brubaker began his career as a horse-driving extra for “Harold and Maude” and “Diamonds Are Forever,” among other John Wayne films.

The veteran producer racked up 28 producing credits, including Keanu Reeves’ “A Walk in the Clouds,” Kevin Costner’s “Dragonfly,” and Angelina Jolie’s “Gia.” for Eddie Murphy — including “Life,” “The Nutty Professor,” and “Klumps,” as well as both “Liar, Liar,” starring Jim Carrey, and “Bruce Almighty.”

From 2003 through 2008, Brubaker oversaw physical production at Universal Studios.
