Damar Romeyelle Hamlin is an American football safety for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Pittsburgh and was drafted by the Bills in 2021. He served as a reserve player during his first season, being elevated to a regular starter during his second season.

Hamlin was in critical condition after suffering a cardiac arrest during a primetime U.S. National Football League game on Monday.

The 24-year-old Buffalo Bills player fell to the ground onto his back after colliding with wide receiver Tee Higgins 5:58 minutes into the first quarter of the match against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Currently, the safety is in critical condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he’s now receiving further treatment and testing. It was later revealed that Damar underwent cardiac arrest after the play ended.

Unlike a heart attack, cardiac arrest is when an electrical disturbance causes the heart to stop beating suddenly. A heart attack can cause cardiac arrest, but a heart attack is a “circulation” problem.
