Jair Bala was a Brazilian footballer, recognized as the greatest American history idol.

He played for Santos alongside King Pelé. In the memory game, the former striker replaces the King where Pelé scored his 1,000th goal against Vasco at Maracana in 1969.

Jair Bala was born in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, State of Espírito Santo, Brazil, on May 10, 1943. He played twice for America (between 1964 and 1965 and between 1970 and 1971). He has scored six goals for the team. After he retired from active football, he occasionally served as a coach for Coelho in the 1970s and 1980s. He managed the squad for 232 games, making him the third coach in club history with the most games won.

Jair Bala passed away on December 27, 2022, at age 79. The former striker who played with Pelé at Santos and substituted Rei after scoring his 1,000th goal against Vasco in 1969, died in a Belo Horizonte hospital, after battling a stroke for some time.
