On April 2, 1942, Joel Cox, an American film editor, was born.

He is well known for his work on more than 30 Clint Eastwood films.

Cox made her film acting debut as a newborn in Random Harvest (1942). He started working in the mailroom at Warner Bros. in 1961. Three years later, Warner Bros. executive and renowned editor Rudi Fehr hired Cox as an apprentice editor.

As was usual at the time, Cox worked as an unacknowledged assistant for a number of years. The Rain People, directed by Barry Malkin and Francis Ford Coppola, is where he made his debut as an associate editor.

He made his debut as an editor on Dick Richards’ Farewell, My Lovely (1975), which he co-edited with seasoned editor Walter A. Thompson. On Richards’ 1975 picture Rafferty and the Gold Dust Twins, Cox had just ended working as Thompson’s assistant.

March or Die (1977) and Death Valley (1998), both directed by Richards, both benefited from Cox’s contributions.
