In addition to co-writing the television drama The Fattest Man in Britain and the movie Pierrepoint, Jeff Pope is a British television producer and screenwriter who won a BAFTA in 2006 for the drama See No Evil: The Moors Murders.
He also serves as the Factual Drama Director for ITV Productions. In addition to co-writing the 2022 movie The Lost King, Pope penned the screenplay for the 2018 movie Stan & Ollie.
Pope worked as a reporter for the Ealing Gazette for his first media position. In 1983, he started working for London Weekend Television as a researcher for The Six O’Clock Show. Pope was hired as Head of Factual Drama at LWT in 1996 before transferring to Granada Television in the same capacity. The Head of Factual Drama finally relocated to ITV. The Place of the Dead (1997), Essex Boys (2000), Bob Martin (2000), Dirty Filthy Love (2004), Christmas Lights (2004), Pierrepoint (2005), Northern Lights (2006), City Lights (2007), The Fattest Man in Britain (2009), and The Widower are among Pope’s television writing credits.
He won a BAFTA for his work on The Moors Murders in 2007 and was nominated for three other BAFTAs. In 2004 he appeared as himself in an episode of The South Bank Show.
In 2015, Pope was awarded the Alan Clarke special BAFTA award for his contribution to British film and television. He co-wrote Stan & Ollie (2018), a biographical comedy-drama film based on the lives of Laurel and Hardy. The Reckoning, a mini-series about Jimmy Savile, has been delayed until 2024.
