Going it alone is acceptable for Kim Cattrall.
Even though a third movie was being scripted, the actress who played Samantha Jones in the HBO series Sex and the City decided in 2017 that it was about time she leave her character as Samantha Jones behind.
In a recent interview with Variety, she stated that it takes great discernment to recognize when enough is enough. “Furthermore, I didn’t want to sacrifice what the show meant to me. The path ahead looked obvious.”
Why did Kim Cattrall not like ‘And Just Like That’ movie?
The Sex and the City revival And Just Like That…, which aired late in 2021, had a variety of responses from viewers. Other than not enjoying some of the characters and plots, viewers’ major complaint about the show was that Kim Cattrall’s much-loved Samantha Jones from the first season was not present.
Kim Cattrall stated that she had ended up playing Samantha Jones after six seasons of Sex and the City and two motion pictures. Fans were devastated when she declined to participate in a third film or the new television series, with many claiming that the plot wouldn’t be the same without Samantha.
The other three principal actors from the original series, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon (who only consented to reprise her role as Miranda on the condition that the show be significantly different from the original series) all agreed to be a part of And Just Like That… Fans, however, were still inconsolable by Kim’s “firm no” to a comeback.
