What happened to Michael Oher’s parents? Prison and drug abuse explained

Oher was born to super irresponsible parents Denise Oher and Michael Jerome Williams in Memphis, Tennessee.

His father was a jailbird who couldn’t stop living a life of crime. Oher’s mother was not different. She was a crack addict and had no time for her kids.

The absence of both parents in his life caused the state to put him in the foster care system where he was bounced from one home to the other. The super-successful offensive tackle’s father was murdered in jail when he was in high school.

Football is actually what saved his life. He had to work very hard to concentrate on his studies in order to advance his very promising football career.
