Thomas (Tom) Leo Browning was an American professional baseball pitcher.
He pitched for the Cincinnati Reds and the Kansas City Royals during a 12-year Major League Baseball career, pitching the twelfth perfect game in baseball history on September 16, 1988, against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Tom attended Le Moyne College in Syracuse from 1979 to 1981, where he played collegiate baseball.
He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the ninth round of the 1982 June draft out of Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tennessee.
During his early career, he went 20–9 with a 3.55 ERA for the Reds, becoming the first rookie to win 20 games since the Yankees’ Bob Grim in 1954

om was pronounced dead at his home after Boone County, Kentucky Sheriff’s Department officers and emergency personnel responded to and found him not breathing and attempts at resuscitation proves futile. This happened on December 19, 2022. He was aged 62.
Notably, not only was Tom a baseball pitcher, but he also wrote a book titled Tom Browning’s Tales from the Reds Dugout, which was published in March 2006. The book was co-authored by Reds employee Dann Stupp.
Dealing with legal issues, Tom was arrested on March 30, 2009, for non-payment of child support and was held on $99,008.36 bail.
