Felt and Primal Scream’s keyboardist Martin Duffy passed away at the age of 55.

Tim Burgess, a member of the Charlatans, confirmed Duffy’s passing on Twitter, writing: “Another awful loss of a beautiful soul. Having played with us in Knebworth and being a good friend, Martin Duffy stepped in to salvage the Charlatans when we lost Rob.”

Duffy, a 1967 Birmingham native, became a member of the independent band Felt in 1985 at the age of 16. He remained in the group until its breakup four years later.

Duffy had previously contributed to Primal Scream’s first two albums, Sonic Flower Groove from 1987 and Primal Scream from 1989. He became a permanent member of the rock group in 1989.

When The Charlatans opened for Oasis at Knebworth that summer, Duffy joined the group after the passing of original member Rob Collins in 1996. Additionally, he contributed to their 1997 record Tellin’ Stories.

Duffy has also worked on the score for the 2018 film Wild Rose with musicians like Beth Orton, Chemical Brothers, Paul Weller, and Jessie Buckley over the years.

On Burgess’ O Genesis record label, he additionally released a solo album in 2014 titled Assorted Promenades.
