Garner played in summer stock theater while a college student. Garner not only performed, but also assisted with ticket sales, set construction, and cleaning of the venues. She performed in 1992 at Mount Carroll, Illinois’ Timber Lake Playhouse, in 1993 at Augusta, Michigan’s Barn Theatre, and in 1994 at Atlanta, Georgia’s Georgia Shakespeare Festival. In 1995, Garner relocated to New York City.
