Italian-Swiss football executive Giovanni Vincenzo Infantino was born on March 23, 1970, and he currently serves as FIFA’s president. During the 2016 FIFA Extraordinary Congress, which took place in February 2016, he was chosen to lead FIFA.
In June 2019, he received a second term as FIFA President. He was chosen to join the International Olympic Committee in January 2020.
Gianni Infantino has been the Secretary General of UEFA since October 2009. He was previously the Director of UEFA’s Legal Affairs and Club Licensing Division. During his time there, UEFA introduced Financial Fair Play and improved commercial support to smaller national associations.
Gianni Infantino was elected FIFA President for a period of three years in February 2016. He is the first Italian to hold the Presidency of FIFA. Promised to expand the FIFA World Cup to forty teams, and improve women’s rights in Iran.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino accused Western countries of hypocrisy for criticizing Qatar’s treatment of migrant workers. Norwegian coach Ståle Solbakken responded by saying he is not fit to teach morals and ethics. Infantino was implicated in the FIFA corruption scandal in the 2016 Panama Papers.
Questions were also raised over his acceptance of special treatment by the 2018 and 2022 World Cup hosts Russia and Qatar.
