Shirley Watts passed away at the age of 82.

Shirley Shepherd passed away following a brief illness, 16 months after the 80-year-old drummer for The Rolling Stones passed away from cancer in August of last year.

In a statement released on Monday, 19.12.22, the couple’s family—which also includes their daughter Seraphina and only granddaughter Charlotte—stated that their mother had been “reunited with her beloved Charlie.”

“Seraphina, Charlotte, and Barry announce the passing of their cherished mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law Shirley Watts with deep sorrow,” they said.

“After a brief illness, Shirley passed away quietly on Friday, December 16 in Devon, surrounded by her family.

She was studying sculpting at the Royal College of Art in 1961 when she met Charlie, who was working as a graphic designer for an advertising agency and playing jazz in his spare time. Charlie was born Shirley Ann Shepherd in September 1938.

The couple wed in 1964, a year after Charlie joined the Stones, and they had originally met at his first rehearsal with Alexis Korner’s Blues Incorporated.

After being married to Charlie for four years, Shirley—who went on to become a well-known horse breeder—had their daughter Seraphina.
