An American actor who has appeared in both feature films and television series is Dileep A. Rao (born July 29, 1973). He appeared in the sci-fi series Avatar (2009–present), the horror movie Drag Me to Hell (2009), and the thriller Inception (2009) all directed by Christopher Nolan.
After graduating, Rao played the lead in Tom Stoppard’s Indian Ink, which had its American premiere. Rao settled in Los Angeles and started acting in local productions at the Berkeley Rep, South Coast Repertory, and the Manhattan Theater Club, among others.

He has a sister who teaches at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. He received his B.A. from Claremont High School and his M.F.A. from the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, where his classmates included Elizabeth Banks and Anna Belknap.
He also graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a B.A.
On June 7, 2002, he participated on Jeopardy! and took home $34,400. Rao was chosen at random from more than 1,600 applicants on June 8, 2008, to play the NPR Weekend Edition Sunday puzzle live on air with Will Shortz.
