Mark Sinclair (born July 18, 1967), better known by his stage name Vin Diesel, is an American actor. His work as Dominic Toretto in the Fast & Furious series has made him one of the highest-paid actors in the world.

Diesel began attending auditions for jobs at the beginning of the 1990s, but he had problems landing any. As a result, he decided to produce his own low-budget film. He wrote, produced, and directed the 1995 short film Multi-Facial, in addition to starring in it.

Diesel’s first feature-length film, Strays, was written, produced, and directed in 1997. Steven Spielberg granted Diesel a brief role in his 1998 war epic Saving Private Ryan after observing him in Multi-Facial.

Vin Diesel attended Hunter College, Village Community School, and P.S. 041 Greenwich Village School. While attending Hunter College in New York City and majoring in creative writing, Diesel continued to be active in the theater throughout his childhood. He then started scripting films. He describes himself as an actor who has “many facets.”

While employed as a bouncer at the New York nightclub Tunnel, Sinclair started using the stage name Vin Diesel because he wanted a name that sounded more intimidating. While the surname Diesel was given to him by friends because of his propensity for being active, Vin is derived from his mother’s marriage last name, Vincent.
