Deborah Ann Roberts, an American television journalist for the ABC News division of the ABC broadcast television network, was born on September 20, 1960. Roberts started her career in 1982 at Columbus, Georgia’s local television station WTVM. Later, she moved on to work at Knoxville, Tennessee’s WBIR.

Benjamin Roberts, a businessman, and Ruth Roberts, a housewife, welcomed Roberts into the world in Perry, Georgia. She earned a Bachelor of Journalism in 1982 from the University of Georgia’s Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. Roberts received the University of Georgia’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1992 in recognition of her quick rise to fame as a writer.
She worked as the bureau chief, a NASA field reporter, and the weekend news co-anchor at Orlando, Florida’s WFTV from 1987 until 1990. She worked as a general-assignment reporter for NBC News before becoming a journalist for the newsmagazine program Dateline NBC.
