American actor Scott Leo “Taye” Diggs was born on January 2, 1971. He performs on stage and in movies.

He is well-known for his performances in the Broadway productions of Rent and Hedwig and the Angry Inch, the television series Private Practice (2007–2013), Murder in the First (2014–2016), and All American (2018–), as well as the movies How Stella Got Her Groove Back (1998), Brown Sugar, Chicago (both 2002), Malibu’s Most Wanted (2003), The Best Man (1999), and its follow-up, The Best Man Holiday (2013).

Yes, attended college and high school, Diggs was raised in Rochester, New York’s South Wedge neighborhood after being born in Newark, New Jersey. His father, Andre Young, is a visual artist, and his mother, Marcia (née Berry), was a teacher and an actress. When Taye was a young boy, his mother wed Jeffries Diggs, whose last name he adopted.

Scotty is sometimes jokingly pronounced as “Scottay,” therefore Taye. The oldest of five kids, he is. Gabriel and Michael are his two brothers, and Christian and Shalom are his two sisters. He went to Rochester’s Allendale Columbia School before transferring to School of the Arts. 1993 saw him graduate from Syracuse University College of Visual and Performing Arts with a BFA in musical theater.
