Tommie Stewart, sometimes known as Tonea Stewart, is an American actor and professor who was born on February 3, 1947. She formerly served as dean of Alabama State University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts in Montgomery, Alabama.

She was a regular on the American television series In the Heat of the Night as Aunt Etta Kibby, and she was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for her performance in the movie A Time to Kill.

Stewart worked as both an actress and a teacher concurrently from the start of her acting career until 2019; she didn’t start acting full-time until she retired from teaching.

The daughter of Hattie and Thomas Harris, Stewart was born in Greenwood, Mississippi. Her mother was a teacher, and her father was a plumber and electrician. When Stewart was 4 years old, they would get divorced. The two have shared the stage with Beverly Branson, her sister who is a singer.
