Grant Wahl dies: Cause of death revealed

After US journalist Grant Wahl passed unexpectedly on Friday night in Qatar, the footballing community is in grief.

Wahl, 48, became unwell while covering the quarterfinal World Cup match between Argentina and the Netherlands. He was rushed to the hospital after receiving treatment at Lusail Stadium, but he did not recover. Early indications, according to the BBC, point to a heart attack.

He had stated earlier in the week that he had bronchitis and was taking antibiotics, despite the fact that he was otherwise healthy and fit.

Wahl, a renowned writer, and expert on American football attended Princeton and studied the sport for his thesis before starting a 26-year career in journalism. Many people give him credit for considerably expanding the sport in the US. He also authored three books, The Beckham Experiment, Masters of Modern Soccer, and Football 2.0.
