Richard Treat Williams, an American actor, writer, and pilot, was born on December 1st, 1951. He has over 120 film, stage, and television credits to his name. He rose to fame with his lead performance in the 1979 musical movie Hair, and went on to star in Prince of the City, Once Upon a Time in America, The Late Shift, and 127 Hours.

He played the lead character on the television show Everwood from 2002 to 2006 and received two Screen Actors Guild nominations for the role. In addition, he has received nominations for two Satellite Awards, an Independent Spirit Award, and three Golden Globe Awards.

Williams, the son of Marian Williams, an antiques dealer, and Richard Norman Williams, a business executive, was born on December 1st, 1951 in Rowayton, Connecticut.

Senator William Henry Barnum of Connecticut, a third cousin of the performer P. T. Barnum, was his maternal great-great-great-grandfather. Robert Treat Paine, one of the signatories of the Declaration of Independence, is a distant relative of Williams.

Williams participated in high school football.

He earned degrees from Franklin and Marshall College in Pennsylvania and the Kent School in Connecticut.
