English professional footballer Leslie William Adlam played for Cardiff City, Oldham Athletic, and Queens Park Rangers in the Football League from 24 June 1897 to 1975.
Before switching to a wing-half position with Oldham, where he played more than 250 times, he began his career as a center forward with non-League club Guildford United.
Adlam was a center-forward for non-league Guildford United when he caught the eye of Oldham Athletic, who signed him for a club record fee of £300 in March 1923, beating out competition from Bristol Rovers. He quickly converted to a right-hander and made over 250 appearances in all competitions during his eight seasons with Oldham. In April 1930, he was granted a benefit match against Bristol City, which guaranteed him at least £500. He left the club in 1931 after two years as captain of Queens Park Rangers. He left the Rangers in 1933 after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract. In December 1933, he signed with Cardiff City of the Third Division South. He made his debut on December 23, taking John Duthie’s place in a 3-1 loss to Northampton Town after missing the club’s first game due to insufficient fitness. He played in all three of the ensuing games, including a win over Watford and back-to-back victories over Coventry City. However, in the first week of January 1934, the club’s administrators decided to let Adlam go.
