Catherine Zeta-Jones was born in Swansea, Wales (and brought up in the close-by town of Mumbles) on September 25, 1969, as the only child of Patricia Fair and David James “Dai” Jones, who had operated a sweet factory.
She went at Dumbarton House College (Swansea). Her mother, the daughter of William (1921-2000) and Catherine O’Callaghan Fair (1920-2001), is of English, Irish, and Welsh origin, while her father, Bertram (1912-1970) and Zeta Davies Jones (1917-2008), is of Welsh lineage. Her brothers are Lyndon Jones, a production firm employee, and David Jones, a development executive who was born in 1972.
In order to distinguish herself from the numerous other young girls with the exact same name, she added her paternal grandmother’s name (“Zeta”) to her given name, Catherine Jones.
Early on, she shown a keen interest in entertainment. In “Annie,” “Bugsy Malone,” and “The Pajama Game,” she had theater roles. She played the lead in the British production of “42nd Street” at the age of 15. When the star and first understudy became ill on the night the play’s producer was in the audience, she was handed the lead for the remainder of the musical’s performance despite having been originally cast as the second understudy for the lead part.
She originally gained recognition when she starred in the comedy/drama series The Darling Buds of May on Yorkshire Television in the early 1990s (1991). She became one of the most well-known television actresses in the United Kingdom as a result of the series’ success.
