On January 29, 1993, Lewis James Pullman was born in Los Angeles, California. He is the son of modern dancer Tamara Hurwitz and actor Bill Pullman. He has a brother named Jack who makes puppets and a sister named Maesa who is a singer-songwriter. His mother is of Jewish and Norwegian ancestry.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, North Carolina, in 2015. He was asked to try out for the television series Highston, produced by Sacha Baron Cohen and Amazon Studios, in the same year by the filmmakers Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. His casting was officially announced in September 2015, and a six-episode order was placed for the show.
Pullman played the lead in the series as a 19-year-old whose fictional friends were famous people in real life. Flea and Shaquille O’Neal appeared in the pilot episode, which earned positive reviews from critics. However, Highston was abandoned in December 2017 after just one episode.
