On June 18, 1990, Barbaro was born in San Francisco. She was raised in Mill Valley, California, and attended Tamalpais High School, where she received her diploma in 2007.

When she was a young girl, her parents were divorced.  Barbaro began dancing at a young age and later pursued a ballet education. She earned a degree in dance from the Tisch School of the Arts in New York City while taking acting electives. She opted to continue acting and moved back to San Francisco after graduating in 2010.  She studied acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse there.

In 2013, Barbaro attracted recognition for her leading role in the popular comedy short about communication in marriage, It’s Not About the Nail.

Yael, a character she played in the second season of the Lifetime television series UnREAL, was her first significant television role. Following UnREAL, Barbaro joined the cast of Dick Wolf’s legal drama Chicago Justice on NBC, where she played Anna Valdez.

Alongside Josh Groban and Tony Danza, Barbaro also as Cora Vasquez in the 2018 Netflix series The Good Cop. Barbaro played a recurring role in the ABC comedy Splitting Up Together between 2018 and 2019.

Barbaro played naval aviator Lieutenant Natasha “Phoenix” Trace in the 2022 hit Top Gun: Maverick. though it might have required TV shows.
