Italian engineer Mattia Binotto, who was born in Switzerland on November 3, 1969, is the team leader of Formula One’s Scuderia Ferrari. On January 7, 2019, he was chosen to take over the position from Maurizio Arrivabene. Italians make up his parents.
Binotto, a Lausanne native, earned a mechanical engineering bachelor’s degree from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in 1994 before going on to earn a master’s in motor vehicle engineering from the Universities of Modena and Reggio Emilia. He started working for Scuderia Ferrari’s engine division in 1995. He participated in the group’s early 2000s success. Before taking over for James Allison as Ferrari’s new chief technical officer (CTO) in July 2016, he was appointed head of the engine division in 2013.
