Sam Bankman-Fried was conceived in 1992 on the Stanford University campus. He is the son of Stanford Law School professors Barbara Fried and Joseph Bankman.

He also augmented his high school education with summer classes at Canada/USA Mathcamp, a school set up purposely for mathematically gifted high school kids.

Bankman-Fried graduated from MIT in 2014 with a degree in physics and mathematics. He interned and worked for a few companies before co-founding his own company Alameda Research.

The now-defunct Alameda Research was set up as a cryptocurrency trading platform. It was super successful until recently when it all came crashing down.

A solvency crisis occurred at the company causing Alameda to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The Wall Street Journal was informed by sources that FTX has lent Alameda more than half of its customer funds. This development violates the terms and conditions under which the firm operates.
