Alexander Ludwig (born May 7, 1992) is a Canadian musician and actor. He began his career as a youngster and rose to prominence as a teenager after appearing in the films The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising (2007) and Race to Witch Mountain (2009). He is also well-known for his role as Cato in The Hunger Games (2012).
He is also noted for his supporting appearances in Lone Survivor (2013) as Shane Patton and Bad Boys for Life as Dorn (2020). In the History Channel series Vikings, he played renowned Viking Björn Ironside (2014–2020). He presently appears on the show Heels.
Ludwig was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, to former actress Sharlene Martin and businessman and Lionsgate Entertainment co-chair Harald Horst Ludwig. He has three younger brothers and sisters. Ludwig was drawn to the industry because, as he stated in an interview, “I have a really active imagination. I enjoy performing.”
Ludwig had to persuade his parents to accept his wish to pursue acting as a youngster, despite his mother’s early career as an actor.
His parents were of the opinion that kid performers “may get lured into a world that isn’t realistic.” Ludwig studied drama at the University of Southern California, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
