The comic book series The Red Star was developed by American artist Christian Gossett and a big team, and it was first released by Image Comics in 2001. It was one of the first computer-generated comics, heavily utilizing 3D model line art to present expansive cinematic scenes appropriate for its vast sci-fi/fantasy world. Gossett calls this world a “Mythic [Soviet] Russia,” noting that the “Lands of the Red Star” were influenced by both Russian mythology and military history. Thus, the series strongly evokes a post-World War II Soviet Russia by fusing magic with technology in a style known as “Military Industrial Sorcery.”
