The Nassau County Police Department reported that Mr. Maraj was struck by a northbound car that fled the scene on Friday at 6:15 p.m. in Mineola, New York, when he was wandering in the street close to the intersection of Roslyn Road and Raff Avenue.
According to the police, Mr. Maraj, 64, of Mineola, was admitted to the hospital in a severe condition. A medical doctor later confirmed that Mr. Maraj had passed away on Saturday.
The Homicide Squad of the Nassau County Police Department declared that it was looking into the matter.
His death was verified by a Ms. Minaj spokesman, who did not offer any other information.
Ms. Minaj has previously spoken about crack cocaine use and physical abuse at her childhood home in Jamaica, Queens, including an incident in which her father attempted to burn down her house. Her parents immigrated to the United States from Trinidad before she joined them two years later.
