Martin Charles Scorsese, born November 17, 1942, is a film director, producer, screenwriter, and actor from the United States. He has won an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, three Emmy Awards, four British Academy Film Awards, two Directors Guild of America Awards, an AFI Life Achievement Award, and the Kennedy Center Honor in 2007. The Library of Congress has entered five of his works into the National Film Registry as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically important.”

Scorsese had been married and divorced four times before 1991. Martin seems to have given up on marriage for a time until he married Helen Schermerhorn Morris in 1999. Martin Scorsese and Helen Morris met in 1995 when he was looking for someone to edit the memoir of his late friend Michael Powell. During their first meeting, the two barely acknowledged each other.
Morris and Scorsese met again soon after, and this time they struck up a friendship. They began dating, and Helen moved in with Martin in December 1996.
