Tyrann Devine Mathieu, a safety for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League, was created on May 13, 1992. Mathieu was raised by his grandparents in Central City, New Orleans. Mathieu’s original mother was absent for the duration of his upbringing since Mathieu’s biological father, Darrin Hayes, spent the majority of that time behind bars for murder.
Mathieu played football for the St. Augustine Purple Knights while he was a student at St. Augustine High School. Mathieu is a native of Louisiana’s New Orleans. As a senior, he recorded 32 tackles, five interceptions, one sack, and one forced fumble.

He gained a reputation for forcing turnovers while a collegiate player and set a career-high with 11 forced fumbles, breaking the Southeastern Conference (SEC) record. He was dubbed “the Honey Badger” in homage to the aforementioned animal.
He received a unanimous vote for All-American status in his second season, took home the Chuck Bednarik Award for the best defensive player in college football, and advanced to the Heisman Trophy final four. After that season, Mathieu was dismissed from the LSU football program for breaking the rules of the group.
